Yasmeen Ghauri - Canadian Celebrity, Super Model
Because she was seen by her classmates as "too thin" and a bit eccentric, Yasmeen refers to her early childhood as difficult. When Yasmeen was 17 years old, she worked at a McDonalds restaurant. During her teen years, she was reportedly fond of dressing in black from her head to toe. Many people described her as a rebellious teenager. However, she was awarded as Employee of the Month, proving that she was hardworking and a good team player.
She was discovered by Platine Coiffure Edward Zaccharia, a prominent hairdresser and also a salon artistic director in Montreal when she was working in McDonalds. While Yasmeen became interested in starting her modeling career, her father did not approve of it. Despite the disapproval of her father, she still pursued her modeling career. She had her first modeling opportunities in Paris and Milan.Yasmeen moved to New York in the year 1990, a career move that made her become well-known among fashion critics, boutique owners, and the like. The members of the fashion society in New York recognized the exaggerated but beautiful walk and great poise that Yasmeen displayed during runway events. Ghauri was featured by The New York Times, which described her walk as "ball-bearing swivel of her hips."
The first major magazine cover that Ghauri did was with the famous fashion magazine Elle in January of 1991. During the mid-1990s, popular brands such as Jil Sander, Anne Klein, Christian Dior, and Chanel gave her contracts as their new face. Yasmeen also grace most of these brands' catwalks, where many had admired her walk and poise. Well-acclaimed photographer Steven Meisel worked with Ghauri for an Italian Vogue cover. The succeeding photo shoot was done with photographer Patrick Demarchelier, who noted Yasmeen as his "favorite subject". After these great successes, she signed a contract with Victoria's Secret, as well as with Versace and Valentino Couture in 1992. A year after, she became the new model for Hermes and Lanvin. In 1995, she was included in Isaac Mizrahi's documentary entitled "Unzipped".
In 1996, Yasmeen was about to do a catwalk in the Yves Saint Lauren fashion show. But at the very last minute, she did not perform her walk. Many critics believed she was at the brink of retirement. Indeed, Yasmeen retired on that year to take care of her family with two children, Maia and Victor, with her husband Ralph Bernstein.
